Pet & house sitting in York

Pet sitting in York, in the home they know best.

I’m Tamara. I stay overnight in your house and look after your animals there — the same person every time, in the home they already know.

Send your dates, your postcode and what animals you have. Nothing is confirmed until we’ve met at your house.

No car journey, no cattery, no strange smells.

Your animals stay where they live.

Your dog sleeps in the spot he sleeps in every other night. Your cat keeps her own windows and her own hiding places. I come to them instead, and while I’m there the post gets picked up, the bins go out and the house looks lived in.

I don’t offer dog walking on its own, daycare, or boarding at my house.

The person coming to your door

I’m Tamara.

I’ve been pet sitting through Rover for over a year, around York and the villages near it, and I have genuine reviews from those bookings.

I live with Skye, a golden retriever, and Charlie, a long-haired cat with strong opinions about the bed. Mud, wet towels, litter trays and a dog who thinks 8pm is breakfast are all part of my morning before work starts.

When I’m at your house, I’m at your house. There is no team and no rota, so the person you meet is the person who turns up.

“Tamara was wonderful with Maude. I came home to a happy, healthy pup…”

How a booking actually works

Five steps, in this order. Nothing is held until step five, and there is no online booking — I won’t commit to an animal I haven’t met.

“Listened to everything we asked, very responsive on messages…”

Dates, postcode, and what animals you have.

A free meet and greet in the house I’d be staying in, before anything is booked.

See what a meet and greet involves

The practical bits, in plain words

Agreed in writing before your first night.

Keys and access

How I get in, and how that access comes back to you afterwards, is agreed with you before the booking rather than left to the day. Your keys and your home are treated as carefully as the animals are.

If something goes wrong

Your vet’s details, your emergency contact and who can authorise treatment are agreed in writing before the booking. If something happens I follow what we agreed and get hold of you or your nominated contact, so nobody is improvising from an airport.

Updates while you’re away

You get regular photos and messages, and we agree how often you want them before you go. If your cat has spent the day under the bed, I’ll tell you that rather than sending a picture of an empty sofa.

Hours I’m in the house

Arrival and departure times are agreed with you before the booking, and written into the care notes.

One named person

A sole trader, not an agency. There is no other sitter to send in my place.

Where I come to

Drop-in visits within about five miles of York, because two visits a day only works if I can get between them. Overnight stays reach further out, up to about fifteen miles.

Visits and overnights

York, Acomb, Clifton, Fulford, Heslington, Bishopthorpe, Huntington, Rawcliffe, Poppleton, Haxby, Copmanthorpe, Dunnington

Overnights, further out

Strensall, Stamford Bridge, Tadcaster, Easingwold, Pocklington, Wetherby

Further out than that, ask anyway. There’s no travel surcharge — it depends on what else is in the diary that week.

Four questions I get asked most

All questions and answers

Do you actually sleep at the house?

Yes. An overnight sit means I sleep there. We agree my arrival and departure times before the booking and write them into the care notes.

Will you walk my dog?

During an overnight sit, yes — walks are part of it. I don’t take walking on its own, and I don’t run daycare or board dogs at my house.

What if my cat hides the whole time?

Plenty do. I still do everything — food, water, litter, medication — and I check what’s been eaten between visits. If I haven’t seen her, I’ll say so rather than pretend.

How far ahead should I book?

As early as you can for school holidays, Christmas and bank holidays, since those dates go first. Short notice is always worth asking about.

Send me your dates and I’ll tell you if I’m free.

Dates, your postcode, and what animals you have. If I’m not free I’ll say so straight away rather than leaving you waiting.

What happens next

I reply to say whether the dates are free.

We talk, then I come to your house to meet you and your animals.

Nothing is confirmed until after that.
